This is another image from early morning in Bournemouth. A lovely peaceful picture. I know that I feel a certain peace when lying on the sand, listening to the waves break gently on the shore.
Contrast that with the noise and bustle of the average ward.
Last Saturday, there was an article in 'The Guardian' newspaper regarding the use of mobile phones in hospitals, and how the journalist had concluded that they were still banned for two reasons.
1. So the hospitals could ensure the patients continued to use their expensive pay phone systems
2. Because lower class oiks use them a lot, and hospitals were being snobbish (!).

It made me furious, especially being a 21st century kind of person, owning a mobile phone myself (and I like to think I am NOT an oik) so I wrote a reply about the sometimes unbearable levels of noise that we already suffer on the ward, and an (edited) version of my letter was printed on Wednesday. So, make a stand, say your bit, write to papers, be positive. A lot of articles in the press about the NHS and nursing issues are not written by anyone who has ever worked there, or spent any time with the amazing people who do, and are often inaccurate or negative.
Go on, go on, go on.....
